Recycle or Not – Rose Villa Version
There is a fun recycling game at RecycleOrNot.org. However, many things they say go into the trash can go into special bins at Rose Villa.
Give the Rose Villa version of Recycle or Not Game a try!
Do the following items belong in our regular recycling bin or somewhere else, like trash or a different recycle bin?

Thanks for taking the quiz.
There weren’t any questions on styrofoam or food compost. Those programs are undergoing some changes. Look for updates to them soon on RVillagers.

#1. Clear #1 Plastic Containers
#2. Plastic Shopping Bags
These go in special bins at grocery stores labeled Plastic Film, or if you don’t recycle them, they go in the trash. You can learn more about them in this short video by Tenille and this other video by Tenille.
#3. Frozen Food Packaging
These go in the trash. Items that hold really cold things, like items in the FREEZER, have a substance called “wet strength” that cannot easily be recycled. They go in the trash. Items stored in the refrigerator, like almond milk and broth containers, can be recycled.
#4. Round Plastic Containers - 6 Ounces or Larger
These go in the regular recycling bins. However, the plastic lid goes in the trash.
#5. Hot Drink Cups
The trash. Items that hold really hot or cold things have a substance called “wet strength” that cannot easily be recycled. They go in the trash. If you are a super-recycler, you might be able to recycle the lid at a James Recycling Event. If that doesn’t make sense, put it in the trash.
#6. Paper Takeout Containers
The trash. Like coffee cups, they have wet strength and cannot be recycled.
#7. Metal Containers
Regular Recycle Bin. Ideally, the lid should be left attached. If that is not possible, try to put the lid inside the can and crimp it shut. If that is too hard (and dangerous), please put the lid in the trash. The sorter machines think unattached metal lids are paper.
#8. Plastic Lids
Trash. Some lids can be recycled at a James Recycling Event. If you are interested in this, check out the James Recycling website and watch for announcements on RVChat. Sometimes, residents group their items, and one person drops them off at a James recycling event.
#9. Harvest Grill Condiment Containers
This is another tricky one. The cup can go in the Clear Plastic bin, but the lid is trash.
If this is too confusing, put the whole item in the trash. Please do NOT put it in the Regular Recycle Bin or the Harvest Grill bins.
#10. Shredded Paper
Shredded paper is tricky. Newer shredders are “cross shredders” and cut paper into tiny pieces, almost like large confetti. This paper should be bagged, closed, and put in the trash. If the bag gets opened by accident at any point in the process, it makes a mess and is difficult to clean up.
Old shredders cut paper into long strands. If the strands are placed in a paper bag and stapled or taped shut, they can go in the regular recycle bin.
#11. Pill Bottles
#12. Harvest Grill Plastic To-Go Containers
#13. Plastic Garden Pot
Plastic Garden Pots over 4 inches in diameter and NOT made of crinkly or flexible plastic go in the Regular Recycling Bin.
Otherwise, it is trash.
#14. Paper Receipts
The trash bin. Receipts have some chemical substance on them that prevents recycling.
