Proposed Events for 2025

Themes: art and ethnobotany

  • Book Circle — three books this year
  • Film Nights
  • Public Native Art in Portland: walking tour of the Tilikum Crossing Bridge
  • Possible collaboration with Willamette View to sponsor Native Speakers (we are considering Gabe Sheoships, ED of Tryon State Park; historian David Lewis, and David Harrelson, manager of Cultural Resources CTGR)
  • Possible field trips: annual visit to Chachalu on CTGR reservation, 5 Oaks Museum, Hallie Ford Museum, Portland Art Museum
  • Walk on the “land bridge” in Vancouver, see Confluence Project Maya Lin structures
  • Indigenous People’s Day meal
  • Possible 2006 future themes include basketry, culture, history, and ethnobotany

2024 

Themes: water and history

  • Rose Villa’s Land Acknowledgement formatted, framed, and displayed in the RV Lobby  (with generous input from residents Ruth Ross and Bob & Mary Federoff)
  • Created an Indigenous books and DVDs collection housed in the RV library
  • Trip to the Delta Park Powwow 
  • Films with Indigenous history primarily told from a native perspective
  • Co-hosted talk by Lillian Pitt, Warm Springs artist with the Native American Art Council of the Portland Art Museum
  • Formed book discussion group (Book Circle) and read Standing Tall: the Lifeways of Kathryn Jones Harrison
  • Initiated Indigibits (information about important Native American topics) 
  • Sponsored Sunday Supper in recognition of October 13 Indigenous People’s Day
