Doris Burkland – Quilting

Doris Burkland

The lure to quilt began in 1975 when Doris fashioned her first quilt from her mother’s fabric scraps for her first child. Then child-raising and teaching took over for the next  twenty-five years. Retirement finally gave Doris the time, the space, and the leisure to develop and sustain the joy she feels from cutting fabric into little pieces and rearranging them into patterns of color.

Doris found these embroidered squares for sale in the Treasure House and learned they came to the Treasure House when Sharon McCarthy moved to Madrona Grove.

She just couldn’t leave them there, so purchased them and asked Sharon if she could quilt them. Sharon gave permission and this is the quilt Doris gave to her.
