Marietta Schlumpf – Photography

Marietta Schlumpf with her camera

Marietta’s inspiration for photographs comes from places she and her husband have visited throughout the Pacific Northwest, California, and Canada. Flowers and trees, wildlife, and pets are also subjects that inspire her. Most recently her inspiration comes from right here at Rose Villa and the lovely parks that are nearby.

Sometimes for fun, Marietta practices by taking still-life photographs of flower arrangements or other subjects in her home.

Being a lover of the full moon, she gets especially excited when she has a chance to take pictures with only the light of the full moon and no flash, like this wild rose.

During high school Marietta’s father taught her the basics of photography using his Leica camera. Over the years, she has used Minolta and Nikon 35mm SLR cameras with a basic lens and telephoto zoom lens. Her first digital camera was a Nikon D40 DSLR. Her current camera is a Canon EOS Rebel T5i DSLR. She uses a Canon 18 – 55 mm lens as her basic lens, a Tamron 70 – 300 mm telephoto zoom/macro lens, and a Tamron 150 to 600 mm telephoto zoom lens. But with the advances in smartphone technology, a lot of Marietta’s current photography is done with a Galaxy S22 Ultra, which has 5 lenses built into it, from wide angle to telephoto zoom. And it is always in her pocket!

For editing, she has a subscription to Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. But since she takes so many photographs with her smartphone, she mostly use Google Photos for editing and organizing photos, because it is right on her smartphone and so easy to use.

Here are some of her favorite photographs taken over her many years as an amateur hobby photographer.
