Patrick’s career involved large scale artworks, impractical in a retirement community setting. After some years and a class at Rose Villa, he took up collage as something “that doesn’t smell, doesn’t require a lot of studio space or expensive materials, and doesn’t need vast amounts of storage space.”
A poet, he has begun to integrate some of his poems into images, something he hopes creates a synergy between them that boosts both. The finished works are ephemeral by nature, “but at this point, so am I… and I enjoy making them.” With an eye towards more permanence, they could be photographed, enlarged (?) and printed with archival ink and paper. A pricey project, but who knows?
