Update: Soil Your Undies

reported by Marilyn Gottschall

Why are some RV residents soiling their undies?

We aren’t doing anything nasty!  We have joined  a global citizen science project to determine the health of our soil by planting our cotton knickers for 8 weeks.  Cotton is made up of a sugar called cellulose which makes our panties irresistible to all sorts of microbes that live in and decompose the soil.  So if our panties come up in tatters after being buried for a few months it means that our soil is pretty healthy, as dirty things go.

The Clackamas Soil and Water Conversation District loves our project and wants to do a story about the dirty old underwear in Rose Villa’s gardens.  The Green Team and Bringing Nature Home are the sponsors of this project and Rick Simpson has captured the before and after pictures for everyone who participated.

Here is a photo of the Cozines and Anne Haynes, demonstrating what healthy soil and soil organisms we have here, judging by the state of these formerly pristine undies. To see more photos click here: Soil Your Undies.
