Rose Villa is a community that is fully aware of and understands the impact of Alzheimer’s and all forms of dementia. Residents, staff, family, and friends began participating in the Portland Walk to End Alzheimer’s in 2006, as a way to support the vital research of the Alzheimer’s Association. The walks happen each August and anyone can walk with the Rose Villa Team, or they can simply support the team with their donations. In the past, about 10 to 30 walkers have joined the team.
With the constraints necessary with the COVID-19 Pandemic, Rose Villa created its very own unique “Walk” in August 2020. Everyone who donated to the Alzheimer’s Association through the Rose Villa Team received a pinwheel. The pinwheel could be decorated with the name(s) of those one donated for or in memory of. Donors were invited to “walk” and plant the pinwheel in the Tranquility Garden. A truly beautiful and inspirational Promise Garden was created. The Promise Garden was so well received that it will become an annual tradition.
