Evey Cole — Weaving

Evey Cole (Central)

Evey ColeEvey started learning to weave when she lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico. A friend took her to an 18th century restored farm, and there were old looms that were used to weave the wool from the sheep at the farm. She could volunteer at this living museum and so it was there she learned to weave. Then she wanted to do more and bought a loom, which she still uses, called a Baby Wolf. She took lessons at a weaving school and made many scarfs, place mats, etc, learning about wools and designs as she went. In her words, “I don’t consider myself a good weaver but I do enjoy choosing the colors, setting up the loom and then creating my own piece.” She started doing tapestry weaving a few years ago and finds it is even more fun than just weaving. (Besides, as she notes, “… how many scarves did my friends and relatives need?).” Evey continues, “I sometimes begin with a pattern to follow, more often I just start and let it happen.”
