Gramp Hales Tales (Archives, 818.5). Wes’s story, “The Duke of Guacamole and the Earl of Escargot,” is included in Bob Hale’s collection of stories about the adventures and misadventures of kids raised on the prairies of North Dakota. Wes’s story, written in verse for his grandkids, is based on his experiences on his grandfather’s homestead in western North Dakota. “The Duke” is Wes’s cousin and life-long friend, Jim, who was born just three days before Wes was.

In this book Wes writes about studies of the personal development of students and faculty in colleges and universities in our country. While at St. Olaf College, Wes also wrote Good News for Parents, an article that appeared in The Christian Century, May 6, 1981.
