Tokyo-Ya: Restaurant Review

By Betty Hosokawa
This is a review of a different kind of place.  We initially had planned to have lunch today (Sunday) at the excellent HK Cafe- a highly rated Chinese restaurant.  However it had lots of families gathering for a Sunday lunch and a long wait.  So, we decided to explore Tokyo Ya, a Japanese restaurant, close by in the same shopping center.
Tokyo-Ya was a lovely fun adventure!  It describes its self as a ramen and Izakaya place.  I looked up “Izakaya” and this means a “stay sake shop”, meaning you stay, usually with friends or colleagues, and enjoy sakes (or an assortment of Japanese non alcoholic drinks) and light snacks.  The ramen menu looked inviting (and we will go back to explore that part of the menu) but we ended up sharing fried pork dumplings, steaming shrimp dumplings, fried calamari and an amazing very fresh mixed salad.  Everything was cooked perfectly.  Pricing very reasonable and service efficient.  Parking easy, almost in front of the door.
