Baby Ducks!

by Wes Brown

I took a photo yesterday (May 14) in my back yard of Daisy Duck and her 10 ducklings. On about April 1 I saw Daisy in my back yard scrambling up into the ferns, tall grasses, and Indian Plum growth behind apartment 100. She disappeared, and I thought she might be looking for a place to nest.  I did not see her again until yesterday afternoon when, looking up from my table, I saw a parade of 10 fuzzy black and yellow ducklings going along the curb leading up to the planter bed. Then I saw Daisy up on the curb trying to get her little ones to come up with her. They couldn’t manage the 61/2″ climb up. So Daisy came down and eventually squeezed through the gate into the back of apt 101, and continued to lead her family north through the back gardens of 102 and 103 until they reached the sidewalk above Rosewood Lane.

I alerted Marilyn, Miranda, and Pat of the family migration and they got to witness it as well. Daisy and her family were last seen headed down the slope toward Rosewood Lane.  We hope they made it safely to the river!
