Prep for Bill Gates’ Book Discussion

by Larry Sager and Sue Griffin

On April 2 at 4pm the Green Team will host a discussion of the Bill Gates book How to avoid a Climate Disaster.  Here are some ideas for preparing for that discussion:

1.. Watch a Youtube interview of Bill Gates discussing his book (Example, watch the PBS interview)

2. Look at a review of his book
– NY times Archives (https://www.nytimes.com) by Bill McKibben

– an American Environmentalist article: “How does Bill Gates plan to solve the Climate Crisis? ”

Bill Gates states in his book that we need to get involved as a citizen in climate change at the Federal, State and Local levels.

Information for you on where to get more education on the issues:

Federal Level – President Biden will present his Climate Change Plan on Earth Day, April 22

State Level – Governor Brown in 2O20 signed Executive order 20-44 to take actions to regulate gas house emissions – information on Oregon.gov website

County Level – Clackamas County is still developing a Climate Change Policy. Their goal is to have it in place by January 2022

Local Level – Portland has a “Green Living Journal” published quarterly. You can read it online and/or order a FREE Digital Copy. The Spring 2O21 issue has good articles on Energy and Food (https;//www. greenIivingpdx.com)
