Restaurant Review: Papa Haydn

Editor’s Note: If you lived in the Portland area before moving to Rose Villa, you are familiar with the famous and beloved Papa Haydn on NW 23rd Ave. in Portland and will be thrilled to find out there is a branch nearby! If not, you are in for a treat! Here is a review by Gretchen Holden.

Papa Haydn (papahaydn.com),  located nearby at 5829 SW Milwaukie Ave,  is a well-established, well-known restaurant. The food is excellent.  I wish i knew how to make the marinated portobello mushroom sandwich that I had; it was on a ciabatta, topped with pesto, red onion, roasted tomatoes and whatever else made it a tasty treat.  They also serve pork tenderloin, pastas and other more traditional foods.

Papa Haydn is best known for its spectacular desserts.  German Chocolate cake and Lemon Chiffon with lemon curd, creme fraiche, lemon cream and cheese frosting are two favorites.    Check the menu!!!  Deserts and food are not cheap but are a good value.

Restaurant is open Wed – Sunday for take out and patio dining . The patio is very pleasant, spacious and surrounded by trees.  Reservations are recommended and can be made online.
