Restaurant Review: Willow

Jack Durenreported by Jack Duren

I don’t think I’ve ever posted a restaurant review on RVChat before but here goes. Almost a year ago our son gave us a gift certificate for “WILLOW” a different kind of dining experience in the industrial part of SE Portland a few blocks East of 99e on 11th Avenue. This tiny restaurant is upstairs above coffee house. It’s very small and seats a maximum of 14. We were a little early because of not being sure if we could find it. When the lead guy opened the door he looked at us and said, “You must be Mr. and Mrs. Duren”. We didn’t deny it so he welcomed us in and seated us. There are three people running this place and as soon as we were seated they were all introduced to us and began explaining how the place is run, where are the restrooms, how many folks would be there that night, keep all your silver until the last course before dessert, how the drink pairings work and so on. To make this missive shorter: This is more than just a place to eat. It turned into a wonderful two hour food and drink tasting event that was one of my most memorable and delightful food experiences. Every course dish and drink was explained as to sources flavors, etc. the three team members were so enthusiastic about what they were doing that an added level of excitement was layered over everything else. They have a website that will give you more information so Google them if you’re interested. This, to me, is a place for special occasions and is not cheap. I hope some of you will try it and enjoy it.
