Art classes!

by Dianna Shaffer

Hello, Rose Villa friends! Here is a proposal I’ve been working on: I’d like to offer some fun art classes for this Fall. I’m calling his SATURDAY COLLEGE at Rose Villa; it will meet on Saturday mornings from 9 am to noon. These art experiences will be offered through Clackamas Community College. The dates are to be determined but will be in October and November. Of course, all of this is  contingent on COVID restrictions and our ability to gather for such experiences; we plan on observing appropriate precautions. You can sign up for one or more or all four, depending on your interests. I am required to have a minimum of TEN signups for a go. No talent or experience is required; fun projects will each be completed in a three-hour time slot. The materials charge is $20 per class; we are hoping to get funding to cover this cost, and will update this information if that happens.. The projects are:

  1. TIE DYEING for “Senagers” (for those of you who were too busy studying during the tie-die frenzy of the 60’s and 70’s). Step by step instructions to complete one or more tie-dyed pieces.
  2. PAPER MAKING AND CASTING 101. Make real paper using cotton linters (cotton pulp) and cast it into antique ceramic cookie molds: holiday themes, animal themes, plant and bird themes, and more!
  3. POUR PAINTING. Make one of a kind paintings using colorful pigments and wrist movements, holding the canvas and moving in all sorts of ways to create one of a kind paintings.
  4. CREATE  A BEAUTIFUL CALLIGRAPHIC WALL PIECE using a word or short phrase. Beautiful letter templates will be available along with beautiful colors to use as complements.

If you are interested, email me at dsrtst@earthlink.net and let me know which classes you are interested in taking. Below are examples of some typical projects: tie dye, pour painting, paper casting, and calligraphy.
