Ensemble Boulanger (ensembleboulanger.com), consisting of Emma Cowell, soprano, and Hannah Brewer, piano, will present a program of songs, piano solos, and piano duets. From Paris to Chicago offers selections by French and American composers Cécile Chaminade (1857-1944), Nadia (1887-1979) & Lili Boulanger (1893-1918), Amy Beach (1867-1944), Florence Price (1887-1953), and Margaret Bonds (1913-1972). You’ll hear remarkable works from 20-year-old Parisian Lili Boulanger to powerhouse African-American composers Price and Bonds, whose careers flourished in early to mid-century Chicago. Portland area performers Emma and Hannah have been collaborating on musical projects and offering historical house concerts for several years. They each have Masters degrees in music, sing with the liturgical choir Cantores in Ecclesia, and hold music ministry positions at local Episcopal churches.
