Vista House is located on the historic Columbia River highway a few miles east of Portland. The website (vistahouse.com) has plenty of information and directions. My favorite excursion for visitors new to Oregon is to take them to Vista House and then a few miles down the road to Multnomah Falls, which we will cover in an upcoming article.

Vista House is well named. It offers a spectacular view of the Gorge. The website also offers links to plenty of other attractions in the Gorge, as well as maps of hiking trails. Once you get over being gobsmacked by the view, you can go on to enjoy some of these other sites. The Gorge has a fascinating geological history.
